Project 44

Stephen Sebueng asked around to find out the best method of constructing a suspended slab when he was preparing to build his house. He spoke to friends, family members and colleagues who had experience using rib-and-block, cast-in-place methods and hollow-core slabs. Hollow-core slabs consistently “came out tops”. This is considering the speed and ease at which they can be installed to complete a suspended slab in record time and the high quality that is achievable without any errors. Therefore, waste, rework and downtime are eliminated.

People also advised Sebueng to use the services of Coreslab, considering that it is a leading precast concrete specialist with vast skills and experience manufacturing and installing hollow-core slabs. He followed their advice and is extremely pleased with the outcome. “It was an all-round positive experience. The installation was completed quickly, and the overall quality of the suspended slab is excellent. Work was able to to proceed above and below the day after the installation was completed without delay. This saved me in construction time and costs,” Sebueng says.

Johan Muller supervised the project from beginning to end. “Word of mouth spreads quickly. We continue to live up to our reputation of being the team that makes light work of what is arguably the most complex aspect of any double- or more storey residential development. So many things can go wrong when constructing suspended slabs using other methods, but we have successfully eliminated all these risks with our solution,” Muller says.
