Coreslab has already worked alongside Dyra Construction on three building projects. More recently, we helped the company to construct a new hangar at the Airport Fire Station in Polokwane. Coreslab was appointed to design and install the about 100m2 suspended slab for the offices inside the structure. Consisting of our quality hollow-core slabs, the suspended slab was completed in a single shift.
“Using other methods, it would have taken up to five weeks to construct a suspended slab of this size. We could not afford this amount of downtime on this fast-track project. For this reason, we again opted for hollow-core slabs as a means of accelerating production. The hollow-core slabs were manufactured and delivered to site according to schedule and quality. Johan Muller, with whom I have nurtured an excellent working relationship, and his team then made light work of the installation of the precast-concrete elements. Thanks to Coreslab, we were able to deliver quality infrastructure within an extremely short timeframe,” Andre Jonker of Dyra Construction says.
Muller adds, “Our system is comparable in cost to rib-and-block methods which entail, among others, the installation of propping and staging, as well as batching and placing of concrete. These are additional costs that are often overlooked when comparing the two types of precast-concrete systems. Yet, our system provides a much faster means of constructing quality suspended slabs. This is a major benefit that always plays in our favour,” he says.
