Mams Architecture And Planning will now only specify hollow-core slabs for its projects and the firm’s preferred supplier will be Coreslab. This is considering Founder and Principal Architectural Designer of Mams Architecture and Planning, Marabobathta Edward Mamambolo’s, very positive experience working with the precast-concrete specialist on a recent building renovation project. “Using Coreslab’s suspended slab system, we saved immensely in construction time and the quality of the final installation was outstanding. Coreslab added further value by optimising the design of the suspended slab to facilitate constructability and the company worked well with the building contractor to resolve small problems quickly and efficiently,” Mamambolo says.
This project was managed by Johan Muller. It entailed the installation of nine precast-concrete beams and 195m2 of hollow-core slabs. These were manufactured to the highest possible quality standards in a controlled factory environment. They were then dispatched to the site where they were installed quickly and efficiently by a skilled and experienced team. The building contractor was able to commence working above and below the suspended slab almost immediately to keep the project on track.
“It was a tremendous opportunity to work with Mams Architecture And Planning, a leading architectural firm that has helped to construct many private houses; exhibition and temporary pavilions; as well as major art centres and civic buildings. Marabobathota is also well known for his strong views that architecture presents opportunities for transformation – materially, conceptually and sociologically. He tries to implement this approach on all of his projects. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration with this visionary firm,” Muller concludes.
